The Yarra Trio Composition Award - The University of Melbourne

The Yarra Trio and The University of Melbourne have formed a partnership to offer this award for a composition in the genre of a Piano Trio. The Yarra Trio are excited to be able to provide performance opportunities for young Australian composers and encourage composers to write new works in the Piano Trio genre.

Details

Genre: Piano Trio (Piano, Violin and Cello) of 7–12 minutes duration.

Eligibility: Entry open to composers aged 30 years or under (on the final day of application submission). Scores must not have previously been performed in public and composed within the last 3 years.

Deadline: 1 September 2008

Score: Three full scores, one set of parts. Inclusion of recording (MIDI representation) encouraged.

Entry fee: none.

Prizes

• Works will be short-listed for performance in a ‘Competition Final’, which will be held at Melba Hall, University of Melbourne as part of the Monday Lunch Hour Series. The winner to be announced at the concert’s conclusion.
• Short-listed works will receive a recording (either from the competition final, or from a separate recording session), and the recording may be broadcast on 3MBS.
• First Prize is a performance of the work by The Yarra Trio in concert 3 subscription series concerts as well as in their regional and international tours.

A dynamic piano trio of young musicians is taking Australia by storm. The Yarra Trio consists of Jess Ipkendanz (violin), Chris Howlett (Cello) and Stefan Cassomenos (piano).
